Guest DJ Tim Andresen.
This week's guest DJ is Tim Andresen. Tim Andresen is the label owner of What Happens and Savoir Faire Musique. He is also the co-owner of Culture Box, widely regarded as Denmark’s leading electronic music venue. However, what truly brought him into the limelight was his consistent output of productions and DJ sets.
Driven by moments of inspiration, Tim follows his dreams with talent and hard work. He is a musician who enjoys all aspects of writing, production, engineering, and arranging his own records. His portfolio of approximately 250 tracks and remixes includes work for Tenampa Recordings, Ready Mix Records, Re: FreshYourMind, Younan Music, and of course, his own labels, What Happens and Savoir Faire Musique.
In the early days of his studio era, he also released music as half of the duo Professional Losers. The duo was dubbed “the next big Danish housers” by iDJ Magazine following a string of successful vinyl releases on Southern Fried Records. This recognition was further amplified when Norman Cook personally asked them to remix one of his tracks, which subsequently entered #1 on the UK Buzz Chart.
Tim’s DJ sets are deeply rooted in house music, ranging from deep grooves to lush sounds and dreamy sounds. He incorporates everything from techno to electronica to manifest his unique mood of sound, often layering new elements to create intriguing and immersive musical journeys. His talents have not gone unnoticed, earning him the “Best DJ” award at the Club Awards and “Most Popular Nordic DJ” by Megamind.
From a background of playing and promoting highly successful club and warehouse parties in the 1990s and early 2000s, Tim gained an enviable following. Now an international artist, he has performed in 40 different countries across Europe, Asia, and South America. His exquisite taste and technical talent keep him in demand throughout the underground club circuit.
Since 2005, Tim has held an ongoing residency at Culture Box, described by Mixmag as “Copenhagen’s pioneering platform for cultivating electronic music” and rated by Resident Advisor as “one of Europe’s best small clubs.” In 2007, he launched his legendary What Happens residency. As Denmark’s longest-running monthly club night and one of Europe’s most respected events in the genre, it remained hugely popular even as clubbing returned in 2021. Tim’s countless DJ sets have been instrumental in securing the club’s unique position, achieving worldwide recognition and earning six awards for Best Danish Club.
The Night Bazaar wrote, “Few DJs can claim to have had as much impact on their local club history as Copenhagen’s Tim Andresen.” Ministry of Sound referred to him as “the busiest man in Danish house music,” a title that aptly reflects his tireless dedication. Known for a career that spans decades, his legacy extends far beyond the boundaries of Scandinavia. Wearing many hats, Tim continues to innovate and move the scene forward with passion and intensity.
His behind-the-scenes efforts are equally commendable. From workshops with Pioneer DJ to mentorships with the Future Female Sounds organisation, Tim actively supports and guides the younger generation of artists. His spirit of curiosity and open-mindedness drives his approach, and he credits his enduring love for music as the ultimate source of his motivation.
The first hour, curated by Hypnotised, takes listeners on a dynamic journey through Progressive House and Organic House. Highlights include the haunting remix of Around Us' "Invisible Time" by Freedo Mosho and the serene downtempo vibes of Pimi's "Hope" (Juan Deminicis Remix). Standout moments like Cream (PL)'s "Colombo" (Taylan Remix) and the unofficial remix of Depeche Mode's "Behind The Wheel" add depth and diversity to the mix, delivering an engaging and atmospheric experience.
In the second hour, Tim Andresen masterfully blends Organic House and Progressive beats. Tracks such as Hermanez & Liquid Lab's "Midnight Scripts" and Vicente Herrera's "Spiritual Creatures" set the tone, while Mike Rish's "Dipper" and Rockka's "Amnesia" (Fuenka Remix) bring captivating energy to the forefront. The set concludes with the ethereal Mike Rish's "Tú Attair" (Extended Civic Outro Version), leaving listeners with a sense of melodic closure.
This episode of After Hours showcases a rich tapestry of sound, blending hypnotic rhythms and intricate melodies. It’s a must-listen for fans of Progressive and Organic House alike, offering a perfect blend of timeless and modern tracks.
