Bicycle Corporation introduced guest DJ Bert Bevans for his fifth 'Roots' show. Scientific Sound Asia Radio is the English language radio station, promoter, and DJ agency for Sri Lanka, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, India, South Korea and the rest of Asia.

Bicycle Corporation is an Italian DJ and production duo comprising Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known by the name 6884. Throughout the years, they have developed an impressive catalogue featuring over 50 releases spanning various genres, including Techno, Deep House, House, Melodic, and French House.

Marco's foray into the music scene commenced in the early 1990s when he joined the crew of Urban People, an event series that garnered considerable popularity in Italy. His natural talent and fervour for music swiftly propelled him to become one of the most sought-after DJs in the country. As his reputation expanded, he soon encountered international opportunities, performing at clubs and festivals around the globe, thereby cementing his status as a DJ of worldwide acclaim.

Stefano, hailing from Turin, Italy, demonstrated an early interest in music, dedicating a significant portion of his time to the mastery of multiple instruments. He studied classical piano, percussion, and drums, cultivating a profound appreciation for composers such as Chopin and the intricate rhythms of the West African Djembe.

Nevertheless, in spite of his classical training, Stefano became enthralled by the realm of DJs and electronic music. The entrancing rhythms, which were seldom broadcast on Italian radio stations during that period, piqued his interest, and he quickly began to envisage a career that would enable him to create and perform his own electronic sounds.

With a resolute commitment to transforming his passion into a tangible pursuit, Stefano devoted himself to mastering the art of DJing and music production. His unwavering determination, alongside Marco’s substantial expertise in the club scene, culminated in the establishment of Bicycle Corporation.

In spite of their achievements, Marco and Stefano have remained loyal to their origins. Recently, they have taken the opportunity to revisit some of their earlier compositions, reworking and remastering tracks to introduce them to a new generation of listeners. To enhance the accessibility of these releases, they have set up a Bandcamp page where fans can discover their evolving sound.

Bicycle Corporation consistently expands the horizons of electronic music while upholding their dedication to authenticity and quality. With a robust foundation in both performance and production, they represent a significant force within the global dance music scene. They are currently available for bookings through our DJ agency for Asia, ready to deliver their distinctive sound and vibrant energy to audiences throughout the region.

This week’s guest DJ is Bert Bevans, a British Honduras-born DJ with an extraordinary legacy in the New York City club scene. Starting out with "Block Parties" in Hollis, Queens, Bert’s natural progression led him to some of the most iconic clubs in the city, including Studio 54, Paradise Garage, Xenon, Electric Circus, Bonds, and the Playboy Club.

Bert’s family immigrated to the US in 1969, settling in Jamaica, Queens, before moving to Hollis, where he spent his teenage years. Though Bert began studying aviation after high school, he dropped out to avoid being drafted to Vietnam, explaining, “If I had graduated, I would have had to go to Vietnam, so I left. I still love flying though!”

His entry into the DJ scene wasn’t planned but rather a result of his deep love for music and the unique opportunities that came his way. Starting with small block parties in Hollis, Bert quickly made a name for himself in the NYC underground scene.

His first big break came while working at Melody’s Record Shop, a hotspot for DJs searching for the latest vinyl releases. It was there that he formed connections with prominent DJs, who began inviting him to perform at their clubs, which set the stage for his future success.

Bert’s big moment arrived in April 1977 when Studio 54, arguably the most famous nightclub in the world, opened its doors. It didn’t take long for Bert to play his first private party at the iconic venue.

That first gig was just the beginning, and soon after, Bert became a regular at Studio 54, establishing himself as a key figure in its legendary nightlife. His musical career flourished as he played alongside the most renowned DJs of the era, creating a lasting imprint on the NYC club scene.

Today, Bert continues to share his passion for music through his dynamic DJ sets and is remembered as one of the pioneers who helped shape the golden era of New York's dance scene. His influence and legacy remain significant in both the club world and the broader electronic music community.

For the past few years, he has helped Santeri build “Seduction” in Phuket which had the Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi tours and just completed a deal with Café del Mar Ibiza. Recently, he helped open Ice and Spice Bar Ho Chi Minh City.
