Bicycle Corporation is pleased to announce that guest DJ Bert Bevans will be featured on their upcoming 'Roots' show. Scientific Sound Asia serves as the premier online Asian electronic music station, DJ agency, and promoter in the region, catering to a global audience.

Bicycle Corporation consists of the Italian duo made up of DJ and Producer Marco MEI and the talented Stefano Ugliano also known as 6884. Together, they have produced more than 50 remixes and original tracks spanning the House Music and Techno sub-genres.

During the early 1990s, Marco embarked on his musical career as a DJ and producer, organizing House Music and Techno events under the name 'Urban People' across Italy. His work with the collective brought him recognition, leading to a residency at Pacha and international DJ opportunities, marking the beginning of his global musical journey.

Stefano, who grew up in Torino, Italy, showed a strong talent for music from a young age. He had a deep passion for classical piano, percussion, and drums, enjoying the compositions of Chopin and the sounds of West African Djembes. However, as a teenager, he became increasingly fascinated by the image of 'the DJ performing on stage.'

He pondered whether those electronic beats, which were difficult to hear on Italian radio stations in the '90s, would mark the beginning of a new phase in his life, leading to the creation of Bicycle Corporation. The duo has recently put out a Hard Techno remix for Virus D.D.Ds' song Origination, which has been selected as one of the staff picks on Beatport, and it's truly a delightful piece.

This week's special guest is Bert Bevans, a British Honduras-born DJ who began his career by performing at "Block Parties" in Hollis, New York, before moving on to iconic NYC venues like Studio 54, Paradise Garage, Xenon, Electric Circus, Bonds, and the Playboy Club. His family relocated to New York on July 27th, 1969, initially settling in Jamaica, Queens, before eventually moving to Hollis, Queens, where he spent his teenage years.

Upon completing his school day, he pursued studies in aviation. However, he did not complete his education, as he shared recently: "If I had graduated, I would have been required to serve in Vietnam, so I decided to leave. Nonetheless, my passion for flying remains strong." He described his transition to becoming a DJ as a somewhat organic development. It all began with organizing block parties in Hollis, and from there, events unfolded naturally.

Although he never intended to become a DJ, his time at Melody's Record Shop attracted many of New York's DJs who frequented the store for the newest music releases. Impressed by him, they often invited him to their clubs, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Studio 54, the most renowned club of all time, welcomed its first guests in New York in April 1977. It wasn't long before Bert performed at his initial private event in the club, marking the beginning of several more appearances at '54'.

Richie Kaczor, the DJ from Studio 54, was assigned to launch a '54' in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Following his successful stint there, he was recruited to inaugurate another '54' in Barcelona, Spain. Upon departing St. Thomas, Richie handed over the reins of Studio 54 in the Virgin Islands to his successor.

Following a two-year stint in the Virgin Islands, he returned to New York and was promptly offered a residency at 'The Embassy' club in London, UK by Steven Hatter. This opportunity then paved the way for another residency at the newly established popular venue, Xenon, in London.

He seamlessly integrated into the vibrant London club scene, performing at Camden Palace, a club co-owned by Rusty Egan and Steve Strange [of Visage]. Here he shared the DJ booth with Colin Favor and "Evil" Eddie Richards.

Bevans spent several years travelling between London, New York, and various cities worldwide. In 1991, he reunited with his old friend Justin Berkmann, who was establishing a new nightspot in London inspired by the "Paradise Garage type sound system." This club, known as the Ministry of Sound, was set to launch in September. Continuing to travel extensively worldwide for performances, he has been involved in establishing “Seduction” in Phuket with Santeri for several years. Recently, he finalized an agreement with Café del Mar Ibiza.

Additionally, he was part of the team that launched Ice and Spice Bar in Ho Chi Minh City before the pandemic. This show originally aired on Sunday 12th of December, you can listen to the recording using the Mixcloud player below.
