Bicycle Corporation has announced guest DJ Brendon P for their Roots episode 127. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music station, DJ agency, and promoter serving the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is an Italian duo consisting of DJ and producer Marco Mei and the talented Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. As a team, they have released more than 50 tracks and remixes across the House Music and Techno genres.
In the early 1990s, Marco began his musical career by delving into Turin's record shops as both a DJ and producer. He, along with a group named 'Urban People', started organizing his own Afrocentric, Techno, and House Music events across Italy.
This earned him recognition, leading to a residency at the famous nightclub brand Pacha in Egypt, which then resulted in international DJ bookings. This set him on a global musical journey that he continues to follow in his travels.
Stefano, a native of Torino, Italy, demonstrated diverse musical abilities in his youth. He dedicated himself to studying classical piano, percussion, and drums with enthusiasm, and held a profound admiration for Chopin's works alongside the tribal rhythms of the West African Djembe.
However, the sight of the disc jockey exciting the audience grew more fascinating for the young Stefano. He wondered if those rare electronic beats, seldom played on '90s Italian radio, could signal an entirely new phase in his life. Through friends, he encountered Marco, which eventually led to the formation of Bicycle Corporation.
Guest DJ Brendon P.
DJ Brendon P, whose real name is Brendon Perera, hails from Singapore and favours a low-profile, lo-fi style in his work. He has been a disc jockey for more than forty years. Brendon P has an extensive background in Clubs and Music, beginning in 1980 on the Singaporean mobile DJ circuit, and transitioning to clubs the following year.
A trip to New York in 1984, where he visited clubs like the Funhouse, the Paradise Garage, Dancetaria, and Area, introduced him to the New York club scene and the music that evolved into the house music we hear today. Through his extensive musical experiences as a DJ both locally and globally, he developed a sharp ear and a passion for dance music. His main genres are now House, Techno, Disco, Nu Disco, Funk, Soul, Lounge, and Electronica.
From performing at clubs in the '80s, both locally and globally, with the Juliana's and Bacchus groups, to holding residencies with Neo Pharaohs, Venom, and NOX in the '90s, and a 9-year residency at the world-famous Zouk Club in Singapore. Between July 2001 and May 2009, he had a 2-year residency at Kyo and spent the last five years as part of the resident team at the chic CE LA VI Rooftop Club & Skybar at Marina Bay Sands. He remains a regular presence in the local and international club scene today.
Having DJ'ed in cities around the world, such as Geneva, Gothenburg, Melbourne, London, New York, Miami, Taiwan, Hanoi, and Hong Kong, Brendon also performed at the famed Cielo Club in New York in June 2010. As a producer, Brendon has released his original works and remixes on labels including In The Woods (USA), Los Grandes (Spain), Reversoulmusic (USA), Audio Parallax (UK), Hotbox Music (USA), Soul Shift (USA), Defected (UK), Rawjak (SG), Eclesia (SG), Issys Groove (UK), Love International (MY), and One With Music (SG).
Due to his strict commitment to music style and sophistication and meticulous attention to detail, it's easy to see why Nicolas Mattar, the owner of New York's 'Cielo' and 'Output', refers to him as a 'taste master' and one of the top DJs in the area. You can expect a set from him that crosses vast musical boundaries, encompassing the past, present, and future.
This episode 127 of Roots with DJ Brendon P is a masterclass in musical storytelling, weaving together Balearic rhythms, Afro-Disco beats, and the warmth of Deep and Soulful House. The carefully curated selection highlights timeless tracks reimagined through modern Funk and Soul reworks and edits, creating a seamless fusion of classic Disco and contemporary Nu-Disco sounds.
Listeners can look forward to groovy basslines, soulful melodies, and uplifting percussion, as well as highlights like the jazzy undertones of Herbie Hancock's re-edit and the Gospel House vibes of "Stand On The Word." DJ Brendon P’s expert transitions and impeccable taste promise an immersive listening experience for both dedicated fans and new listeners alike.
