Bicycle Corporation is pleased to announce the guest appearance of DJ Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, for his new show titled 'Roots'. Scientific Sound Asia serves as the premier electronic music station, DJ agency, and promoter for the Asian region and beyond.

Bicycle Corporation is an Italian duo comprising DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, who are collectively known as 6884. Together, they boast an impressive catalogue of over 50 original releases and remixes spanning the House and Techno sub-genres.

Marco commenced his career in the early 1990s, initially working as part of the crew for events such as ‘Urban People’. His talent soon garnered attention within the music scene, leading to a growing demand for his skills throughout Italy. However, his success did not remain confined to his homeland; Marco quickly began to receive international bookings across the globe.

Stefano, hailing from Torino, Italy, exhibited musical promise from a young age. His passion for the musical arts consumed much of his leisure time. He pursued studies in classical piano, percussion, and drums, while also developing a profound appreciation for the works of Chopin and the rhythms of West African Djembe.

Despite his dedication to various musical forms, there was one particular passion that captivated Stefano like no other: the art of DJing. The allure of the DJ, spinning records and creating beats, became irresistible to the young Stefano, especially as such sounds were rarely featured on Italian radio stations at that time.

The prospect of producing and performing these sounds for large audiences seemed like a distant dream for many. Yet, Stefano was undeterred; he possessed a vision that he was determined to realise. Through hard work, dedication, and unwavering tenacity, Bicycle Corporation was born.

Even amidst their current success, Marco and Stefano remain grounded and have not forgotten their humble beginnings. Recently, they revisited some of their earlier tracks and launched a Bandcamp page to distribute these works.

Guest DJ Murphy Kin.

This week’s guest DJ is Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy. DJ Lucy possesses an insatiable curiosity for discovering new sounds. Originally hailing from the film industry, his transition into DJing and music production is characterised by an expansive and limitless approach.

Listening to Lucy's music is akin to experiencing a cinematic journey. It features a dynamic range of highs and lows; he does not confine himself to the typical 125-128 BPM. His sets are anything but predictable, as he takes listeners on a gradual journey, beginning with a slow build-up and guiding them through romantic rock, classic old school, flirtatious R&B, and into the realms of Disco, Indie, Rock, and even Dance.

His music evokes the sensation of being immersed in a film scene, building to climactic moments with infectious beats. Naturally positive and energetic, DJ Lucy boasts a diverse taste in music, adeptly navigating through various genres. He seeks to engage your emotions rhythmically, seamlessly transitioning between styles such as Hip-Hop, Rock, Punk, Indie Rock, and Jazz.

Under DJ Lucy's leadership, Ting Ting Disco has gained a reputation for hosting exceptional parties across a variety of bars, pubs, clubs, and venues in both Taipei and Shanghai since 2015. In 2017, Ting Ting Disco expanded its reach, touring other cities in China and throughout Asia.

In 2021, the initiative aimed to offer more than just parties by also releasing music online. By curating and integrating music productions from around the globe, it provides music enthusiasts with a wider array of choices.

When performing live, DJ Lucy reveals himself to be a musician free from constraints or scripts. His performances are often guided by the moment, the vibe, or the atmosphere, and at times, he takes on the role of a movie director, skillfully manipulating the audience's state of mind.

Guest DJ Murphy Kin takes listeners on an eclectic journey in Roots Episode 139, weaving together a rich variety of genres that celebrate both classic and modern influences. From the slow funk groove of Kaye’s “Pastures” to the upbeat boogie of Munir’s “Merseyside Heaven,” the episode brings together the warmth of retro dance floors and the slickness of contemporary production.

Fans of House music will find depth in the selections by Westcoast Goddess, we.amps, and Infrasoul, all bringing a different flavour, ranging from Nu Disco to funky House rhythms and hypnotic grooves. The show also shines with darker, more atmospheric moments, such as Zorg’s “Spherical” and “Blueshift,” both grounded in deep, minimal sounds.

A couple of mysterious ID-ID tracks also leave room for surprise, while the inclusion of Frances Yip’s Cantopop classic and BIZZY & Co.’s Italo-Disco anthem “Take A Chance” display Murphy Kin’s fearless genre-blending ethos. Highlights like “Hamstring” by Michael Mayer & WhoMadeWho and Vibe Impact’s “Hypnotic Connection” give the set a vibrant Indie Dance energy.

Overall, Roots 139 delivers an expressive and unconventional mix, one that will satisfy long-time Disco heads, fans of the underground, and those drawn to boundary-pushing club music. Don’t miss this imaginative session from one of the most exploratory curators on the scene in Taiwan and beyond.
