Bicycle Corporation has announced their playlist for their 'Roots' easter special episode 126. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music station, DJ agency, and promoter serving the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is an Italian duo consisting of DJ and producer Marco Mei and the talented Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. As a team, they have released more than 50 tracks and remixes across the House Music and Techno genres.
In the early 1990s, Marco embarked on his musical journey by exploring the record stores of Turin as a DJ and producer. He initiated his own Afrocentric, Techno, and House Music events throughout Italy with a group called 'Urban People'.
This gained him recognition, resulting in a residency at the nightclub brand Pacha, which subsequently led to international DJ bookings. This embarked him on a global musical journey that he continues to pursue in his travels.
Stefano, who was born and raised in Torino, Italy, showed a wide range of musical talents during his childhood. He passionately studied classical piano, percussion, and drums, and had a deep appreciation for Chopin's compositions as well as the tribal sounds of the West African Djembe instrument.
Yet, the image of the disc jockey energizing the crowd became increasingly captivating for the teenage Stefano. He pondered whether those elusive electronic beats rarely heard on '90s Italian radio, might herald a completely new chapter in his life. It was through friends that he met Marco, leading to the evolution of Bicycle Corporation.
This episode of Bicycle Corporation's 'Roots' showcases an eclectic and rhythmically diverse selection of tracks that spans a wide spectrum of genres. From the unmistakable grooves of Afrobeat and Funk to the experimental edge of Electronica and Jazz Fusion, this playlist captures the essence of global music innovation.
Tracks like Fela Kuti's "Sorrow Tears And Blood" and Bill Laswell's "Work Song" highlight the transformative power of rhythm and melody, while Brazilian influences from artists like Gilberto Gil and Azymuth bring vibrant music to the mix.
Blending rare grooves, Samba, MPB, and Disco, this episode delivers an auditory journey that is both nostalgic and forward-looking. Whether it's the atmospheric sounds of Manuel Göttsching's "E2-E4" or the funk-infused energy of The Fatback Band, every track is a testament to the diversity and richness of the musical tapestry curated in this episode. It’s a playlist designed to move both body and mind, making it perfect for fans of immersive and global music.
