Bicycle Corporation has announced the guest DJ Biscuit for 'Foundations' episode 98. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station for the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is an Italian due of the DJ and Producer, Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, better known as 6884. They have over 50 releases across genres from Deep House, Tech House, and French House to Techno.
Marco began his career in the early nineties by working as a crew for events like ‘Urban People.’ With time he gained recognition on the music scene and steadily became a man in demand all across Italy. But then things didn’t stop there, after so much success in his native land Marco was soon getting international bookings across the globe.
Stefano, from Torino, Italy was showing promise as a budding musician right from his childhood. He showed a keen interest in the musical arts which soon began to engulf most of his spare time. He studied classical piano, percussion and drums and also had a great appreciation for ‘Chopin’s and ‘West African Djembe.’
But with all his devotion to so many different kinds of music, there was one thing Stefano had a love for that was like none other, The man spinning the wheels, yes, The DJ became most enticing for the teenaged Stefano. Those beats were so seldom played on any Italian radio station in the nineties.
Making those sounds let alone playing them before masses of people would seem like a pipe dream to most. But Stefano would not be deterred, he had a vision which he would now see through to the end and with hard work, dedication and sheer tenacity, Bicycle Corporation came to be.
Despite their success today, Marco and Stefan have not forgotten their humble beginnings. Just recently they’ve been going back over some of their earlier tracks and even set up a Bandcamp page to distribute them.
Guest DJ Biscuit.
This week's guest is DJ Biscuit, Biscuit's real name is Daniela Horeanga and she is a PR professional by day and an all-things-music purveyor by night. Having started as a Journalist in her home country Romania, her passion for communication and public relations landed her a job in Malaysia 14 years ago.
Not long after, Daniela discovered her affinity for electronic dance music and her pursuit to grow its presence in Asia has become a mission. She started organising events in The Philippines and Thailand.
From radio shows to club parties, her journey lead to creating sustainable concepts, meant to support the electronic music scene, discover talent and pursue ideas that would grow music appreciation in markets where despite the talent, very few dare to display it. A die-hard Depeche Mode fan since her younger age electronic music, pop rock and new wave have shaped her music taste and established the base of what she was about to pursue further.
She is the owner of Art Xtreme Media, an events and art creation company she established in Malaysia 4 years ago, Daniela is hosting various music events throughout KL's nightlife circuit. Art Xtreme Media is the founder of the weekly party ”The Sweatbox” and the monthly parties “Taboo” as well as Questionmark Wednesdays at The Iron Fairies KL a night dedicated to music industry people.
Her passion for music and her desire to harness the electronic music scene in Malaysia has led to a multitude of collaborations across the spectrum. From worldwide artists and producers to publications, clubs and event spaces that host her parties, radio stations and several music exchange programs in the region including Thailand and Indonesia with the likes of Techno Sake, Panorasuna and Enter The Void- passionate promoters of all non-mainstream electronic music things.
2018 marks Art Xtreme Media's stepping stone with a new addition to the various concepts Sweatbox Records. The record label launched in April 2018 is a platform for both local and worldwide producers to showcase their musical abilities in tune with the vibe of the Sweatbox parties bringing House Music and Techno to Kuala Lumpur.
Sweatbox Records' first compilation: “From Sunset To Sunrise Vol 1” gathers 25 artists and 21 tracks meant to reflect the journey-oriented vibe of Saturday nights, brimming with good fun and energy. Sweatbox Records is a collaboration with the UK-hailing My Digital Enemy (currently known as MDE), a worldwide acclaimed duo of producers and artists who are also running their own labels Vudu and Zulu Records.
Whilst Vudu and Zulu are championing the more bass line-oriented spectrum of electronic music, Sweatbox Records comes as a breath of fresh air with releases focused on the deeper more technical side of electronic music. The upcoming releases will keep Sweatbox Records busy as an array of local producers are stepping up with quality music, with the sole aim of putting Malaysia's House Music and Techno music scene on the world map.
The desire to deliver a message through her music and the events Art Xtreme Media is organising has led Daniela to get behind the decks herself. 2017 marks the year when DJ Biscuit was born and it equally marks her natural progression to deliver her message through her music picks. 2018 saw her hosting “Biscuit +Friends” every Wednesday at Elysium KL, now a defunct place, pursuing a deeper, house music-oriented night and a string of back-to-back sessions with both local and international DJs.
She plays a variety of sounds from deeper grooves to techno bangers with an accent on minimal undertones as well as having a sweet spot for drum and bass as an influence. Sharing the decks with a multitude of artists from Saab to Subb-An to Guti, and having graced the decks in colourful places around the world from Indonesia to Romania to Ibiza, Biscuit continues her journey of delivering good sounds and making people dance as well as turning her music passion into an ever-learning process.
2018 also marked the beginning of Sweatbox Thailand, again, a natural progression to expanding the regional family of talented DJs and producers with the focus of catering to the specific taste of the electronic music market in Thailand. With an ever-expanding regional and worldwide family of music aficionados, Daniela shows no signs of stopping with more projects underway from hosting festival stages to organising large-scale events.
Whether it is a dream, or for now, the same passion and desire to deliver good vibes to Asia's growing electronic music market will surely set Daniela on the path to turning her dreams into reality. This week's show features Deep Tech, Electro, Minimal, and Leftfield.
