Bicycle Corporation announced guest DJ Brendon P for episode 186 of their 'Roots' show. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music station and DJ agency serving Asia and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is an Italian DJ and producer duo composed of Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, better known as 6884. They have released music across various genres, including Deep House, Tech House, French House, and Techno.
Marco started his career in the early 1990s by organizing house music and techno events called Urban People. Over time, he gained recognition in the music scene and gradually became a sought-after artist throughout Italy. However, his success did not stop there. After achieving so much in his home country, Marco started receiving international bookings across the world.
Stefano, who hails from Torino, Italy, exhibited a natural inclination towards music from a young age. He spent most of his free time nurturing his passion for the musical arts. He received formal training in classical piano, percussion, and drums, and was equally fascinated by Chopin and West African Djembe.
Stefano had a deep appreciation for various genres of music. However, there was one passion that stood out amongst the rest - his love for the DJ and the music they played. As a teenager in the nineties, Stefano found the beats played by the DJs to be extremely alluring, especially since they were rarely heard on any Italian radio station.
Most people would think playing music in front of a large audience is an impossible dream. However, Stefano refused to give up on his vision. Through hard work, dedication, and sheer determination, he and Marco founded Bicycle Corporation.
Marco and Stefan, despite their current success, haven't forgotten their humble beginnings. They have recently revisited some of their earlier tracks and even established a Bandcamp page to distribute them. Their Roots radio show features well-known DJs and producers from the electronic music scene in Asia.
Guest DJ Brendon P.
Brendon Perera, known professionally as DJ Brendon P, is a Singaporean native with over four decades of experience as a disc jockey. He prefers a low-profile, lo-fi approach to his work. Brendon P has a rich history in the world of music and clubs, having started in the Singaporean mobile DJ circuit in 1980 before moving on to clubs a year later.
During a visit to New York in 1984, clubs such as the Funhouse, the Paradise Garage, Dancetaria, and the Area introduced him to the city's club culture and music which ultimately evolved into what we know today as house music. As a DJ, he has explored and embraced a wide range of musical styles both locally and internationally.
Over time, his passion for dance music has grown even stronger and his main genres now include House, Techno, Disco, Nu Disco, Funk, Soul, Lounge, and Electronica. During the '80s, the Juliana's and Bacchus groups provided the opportunity to perform locally and internationally.
In the '90s, there were residencies with Neo Pharaohs, Venom, and NOX. Then, a 9-year residency at the world-renowned Zouk Club in Singapore followed. From July 2001 to May 2009, there was a 2-year residency at Kyo, and for the last six years, the resident team at the Swanky CE LA VI Rooftop Club & Skybar at Marina Bay Sands has been his home.
Today, he remains a regular fixture in the local and international club circuit. Brendon is a well-traveled DJ who has performed in numerous cities worldwide, including Geneva, Gothenburg, Melbourne, London, New York, Miami, Taiwan, Hanoi, and Hong Kong.
He has even played at the famous Cielo Club in New York, although it is now closed. Apart from his work as a DJ, Brendon is also a producer who has released his original material and remixes on various labels such as In The Woods (USA), Los Grandes (Spain), Reversoulmusic (USA), Audio Parallax (UK), Hotbox Music (USA), Soul Shift (USA), Defected (UK), Rawjak (SG), Eclesia (SG), Issys Groove (UK), Love International (MY), and One With Music (SG).
Nicolas Mattar, the owner of New York's 'Cielo' and 'Output', refers to him as a 'taste master' and one of the best DJs in the region. This is due to his strict adherence to music style, his attention to detail, and his sophistication. He delivers a set that transcends vast musical boundaries, encompassing the past, present, and future. Expect nothing less than a remarkable performance from him.
This month's radio show is a lovely blend of Balearic, Funk, Jazz Funk, Soul, Disco, and Nu Disco. Listen live on Sunday 14th of January 2024 from 6 PM to 8 PM Indochina Time (ICT) and repeat on Thursday from 6 AM to 8 AM (ICT).
