Bicycle Corporation's guest DJ Terence C is set to host his upcoming Electronic Roots show. Scientific Sound Asia serves as the premier Asian electronic dance music genre station and DJ agency, catering to both regional and international audiences.

Bicycle Corporation comprises the Italian duo of artists DJ and producer Marco Mei alongside the talented Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have collaborated on over 50 original works and remixes spanning the genres of House and Techno, showcasing their collective prowess and musical versatility.

In the early nineties, Marco embarked on his musical journey as a disc jockey, captivated by the emergence of Electronic music and Afrocentric sounds. Following his introduction to the scene, he initiated his own House Music and Techno events as part of a collective called Urban People, hosting events across Italy.

Marco's exceptional skills on the decks earned him widespread recognition, leading to a coveted residency at Pacha in Egypt. His tenure at Pacha not only granted him visibility but also opened doors to international DJ bookings, propelling him on a musical journey across the globe.

Hailing from Torino, Italy, Stefano displayed remarkable musical aptitude from an early age. His passion for music led him to study classical piano, percussion, and drums with fervor, drawing inspiration from the works of Chopin and the rhythms of West African Djembe.

As Stefano matured, his fascination with music evolved, particularly drawn to the image of electronic DJs commanding crowds. Little did he know that the elusive electronic songs, scarcely heard on '90s Italian radio stations, would mark the beginning of an entirely new chapter in his life.

Despite their current success, Marco and Stefano remain grounded and connected to their humble beginnings. Recently, they revisited some of their earlier tracks and even established a Bandcamp page to distribute them, reflecting their appreciation for their musical journey and their desire to share their evolution with their audience.

Guest DJ Terence C.

This week's featured guest is Malaysian DJ and producer Terence C, a stalwart figure in the industry currently residing in Shanghai, China. With over twenty years of experience as a resident DJ in some of Kuala Lumpur's most prominent clubs and venues, Terence has cemented his position as one of the cornerstones of Malaysia's House Music and Techno scene.

Throughout his illustrious career, Terence has had the privilege of warming up for some of the biggest names in music. Renowned artists such as David Morales, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, and many others have taken to the stage to discover the crowd already energized by Terence's stellar sets. Some prominent headliners have personally requested Terence to serve as their opening act, a testament to his talent and reputation in the industry.

Terence's exceptional skills behind the decks have solidified his position as Digweed's preferred choice when he performs in KL. The duo has shared the stage numerous times, playing a pivotal role in shaping Malaysia's iconic Zouk into the world-renowned club brand it is today.

Terence took the lead in organizing monthly Techno events at Zouk called 'We Love Techno', in collaboration with one of KL's prominent figures, DJ XU. 'We Love Techno' spotlighted underground sounds from labels such as Drumcode, Cocoon Recordings, and many others. These events provided a platform for techno enthusiasts to immerse themselves in cutting-edge sounds and contributed to cultivating a vibrant techno culture in Kuala Lumpur's nightlife scene.

Terence commenced his career in 1998 under the mentorship of DJ Chris Doss. He quickly made a name for himself in the music scene, securing residencies at renowned venues like Cubeat and Globar. It was evident early on that Terence was destined for success, and a significant milestone in his journey was landing a warm-up gig for the esteemed David Morales during his inaugural show in Malaysia.

Terence held a residency at the influential Movement Club during the turn of the century, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in Malaysia's electronic music scene. Since then, he has been a fixture across the city, gracing venues such as Backroom, Nouvo, and Atmosphere where electronic sounds have flourished. Terence's presence and contributions have left an indelible mark on Kuala Lumpur's vibrant electronic music landscape.

Terence's influence extends beyond Malaysia, reaching across Southeast Asia with notable performances at venues such as Lush in Singapore and Liquid in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2005, Terence, along with artists Callen Tham and Digital, pioneered a groundbreaking audio-visual collective called Altered Image. This collective transcended conventional boundaries, pushing artistic expression to new heights.

Altered Image seamlessly merged cinematic visuals, turntable beats, and Live FX, crafting mixes that were both innovative and deeply rooted in the essence of the dance floor. Their performances were ahead of their time, pushing boundaries while staying true to their origins in electronic music. Following their victory in the Malaysian heats of the Heineken Thirst competition that year, the trio embarked on a tour across South East Asia as Altered Image.

Since then, Terence has continued to be a trailblazer in technical innovation. In recent years, he has mastered the Ableton Live production suite, expanding his repertoire to include live sets using the software alongside traditional decks and CDJs. This integration of new technology into his performances showcases Terence's adaptability and commitment to pushing the boundaries.

As Terence C delves into production work, audiences can anticipate a wave of new releases in the upcoming year, coupled with an expanding presence across Southeast Asia. With a distinguished reputation as one of Malaysia's top DJs, Terence C is poised to ascend as a prominent figure in the Asian electronic music scene. His House Music and Techno radio show on our station further solidifies his position as a key influencer in shaping the region's scene.

In this month's radio broadcast, Terence C showcases a variety of genres from renowned artists including Deep House, Techno, Breaks, and Tech House. The original airing of the show took place on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023. You can listen to the broadcast using the Mixcloud player below.
