Scientific Sound Asia welcomes Blaze DJ for his next guest show 'Ministry of Breaks' 19 on our radio station. Scientific Sound Asia is the region's electronic music station with an international following.
Blaze DJ is a British DJ and producer originating from Walthamstow in the East End of London, U.K. His whole career and background have been associated with underground music culture and DJing.
Following the 10,000-hour rule, it is believed that around 10,000 hours of practice are required to become an expert at something and master one’s craft. However, for Blaze DJ, 10,000 hours was merely an apprenticeship.
The London-based DJ has dedicated so many hours that he has developed an almost telepathic connection to the turntables, the music he plays, and his audience.
Having grown up in a household exposed to a diverse range of musical styles and genres, Blaze DJ credits his earliest influences to his parents and siblings.
A fusion of Jazz, Funk, Disco, New Romantics, and 80s synth-pop shaped his musical preferences, but it was not until he encountered the cassette House Sounds of Chicago Volume 1 in 1987, while still a schoolboy, that Blaze DJ found his signature sound. Since then, music has become a passion for Blaze DJ, influencing not only his nights out but his entire career and every aspect of his life.
Starting his DJing journey at the age of 15, Blaze DJ quickly made a name for himself as a sought-after DJ, progressing from local pubs in Edmonton to residencies in Birmingham and Faliraki, often performing for crowds of up to 2,000 people. A true member of the Acid House generation, Blaze DJ considers himself fortunate to have witnessed the evolution of the UK’s electronic music scene from its inception to the present day.
Despite thirty years passing, he continues to bring the same passion and energy to his sets as he did during the legendary parties of the early 1990s. For Blaze DJ, house music has always been the focal point.
Influenced by artists spanning various eras, he has successfully integrated his inspirations into his unique sound. Think classic house with a touch of breaks, a hint of acid, and a sprinkle of techno to grasp Blaze DJ’s style.
Blaze DJ’s impact extended beyond the DJ booth, as he worked in DJ shops and was the first retailer in the country to merge DJing and production equipment under one roof.
He played a significant role in revolutionising retail for the electronic music community. In 2005, Blaze DJ seemed to have lost his passion for performing, and while continuing to work in the music industry as an Audio Visual designer and consultant, contributing to the sound systems of renowned clubs worldwide, he decided to retire from DJing.
However, after a fifteen-year break, Blaze DJ rediscovered his enthusiasm and returned to the scene with a renewed desire to excel once again. Despite the challenges of the past year, he has already secured three monthly radio slots with Ibiza Club News, Underground Kollektiv, and Scientific Sound Asia.
Now armed with a collection of unreleased music and releasing under Industrial Force and Zeta Records, he is prepared to make his mark on the club scene once more. A prominent figure in the global breaks scene, Blaze DJ has been dedicated to his craft for over 30 years.
The Ministry of Breaks brand has been gaining momentum over the past two years, known for its distinctive mix of breaks, bass, and bleeps. New music is set to be released soon for the winter season.
Ministry of Breaks is launching a new monthly late-night event in South London on the 11th of November, for more information, check out their social media channels. Following the recent launch of Breaks n Bass, Blaze is back in the studio until the new year working on a range of new tracks.
