Scientific Sound Asia has released the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio show, Velvety Elements episode 249. As a leading entity in the Asian electronic music scene, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, significantly influencing the electronic music community in Asia.
Hailing from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has long been a key figure in the electronic music scene, with a career defined by passion, resilience, and an ever-expanding sonic palette. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes reflects his enduring commitment to music, allowing him to explore a rich spectrum of sounds.
While he has mastered multiple genres throughout his career, including Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music has remained at the heart of his artistic identity. During the challenges faced by the rave scene in Portugal in the 1990s, Joshua remained steadfast, developing innovative ways to share and distribute his music. By collaborating with other artists and curating events in clubs and bars, he helped cultivate spaces where House and Techno fans could come together, significantly expanding his influence beyond his local community.
After stepping back to focus on his family following the birth of his child, Joshua rediscovered his passion for DJing as his daughter grew older, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats radio show. Floating Beats became a platform where he could explore a broad range of electronic music, mixing progressive, melodic, and deeper techno-infused sounds. However, his love for House music inspired him to introduce a second show: Velvety Elements.
Velvety Elements allows DJ Joshua to fully immerse himself in the softer, more refined side of House, blending warm grooves, soulful melodies, and intricate layering to create an elegant listening experience. The show focuses on deep, smooth, and emotive selections, crafted to envelop listeners in a lush and sophisticated atmosphere, highlighting his precision as a selector and his intuitive approach to blending harmonies.
Under his various monikers, K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam—he continues to expand his creative reach, experimenting with different expressions of House music. In January 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings, his own label, designed to showcase his production work and provide a home for his artistic vision. Velvety Elements serves as another chapter in his ongoing musical journey, guiding audiences through an exquisite exploration of House music’s most elegant and immersive sounds.
