Scientific Sound Asia has released the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio show, Velvety Elements episode 251. Known as a significant influence in the Asian electronic music scene, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, contributing significantly to the development of the electronic music community in Asia.
Hailing from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been an influential figure in the electronic music scene, with a career characterized by passion, perseverance, and an ever-expanding repertoire of genres. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes demonstrates his enduring commitment to electronic music, allowing him to explore a wide variety of sounds.
Despite his success in multiple genres throughout his career, including Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music has always remained at the core of his artistic identity. During the challenges faced by the rave scene in Portugal in the 1990s, Joshua remained dedicated, discovering innovative ways to share and distribute his music.
By collaborating with fellow artists and hosting events at clubs and bars, he created spaces where House and Techno enthusiasts could come together, significantly broadening his influence beyond his immediate community. After stepping back to focus on his family following his child's birth, Joshua rediscovered his passion for DJing as his daughter grew, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats radio show.
Floating Beats provided him with a platform to explore a diverse range of electronic music, mixing progressive, melodic, and deeper techno-infused sounds. However, his passion for House music inspired him to launch a second show: Velvety Elements.
Velvety Elements allows DJ Joshua to explore the softer, more refined side of House music, blending warm rhythms, soulful melodies, and intricate layering to provide an elegant listening experience. The show focuses on deep, smooth, and emotionally resonant tracks, crafted to envelop listeners in a luxurious and sophisticated atmosphere, highlighting his precision as a selector and his intuitive ability to harmonize melodies.
By employing several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he expands his creative reach by delving into different styles of House music. In January 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings, a label he established to showcase his production work and provide a stage for his artistic vision. Velvety Elements represents another phase in his ongoing musical journey, guiding listeners through an elegant exploration of House music’s most sophisticated and enchanting sounds.
DJ Joshua’s Velvety Elements 251 opens with a warm and hypnotic Deep House flow, setting the stage with Nico Rothmann’s “Disappear” and Greg Eversoul’s Minimal / Deep Tech rework of “Can’t Stop.” The smooth, rolling basslines and deep textures create an immersive atmosphere from the start.
As the mix evolves, standout Deep House cuts like Finest Wear’s “Critical Feelings” and Manuel Sahagun’s “Rouffff” keep the groove flowing. Toronto Hustle, Sean Roman & Javonntte bring classic underground flavours with “Deep In This,” adding depth and richness to the set.
The energy picks up with a blend of House and Tech House, featuring Bushwacka!’s deep, dubby vibes on “Heaven On Earth” and Steve Bug’s timeless “Keep Movin’.” Meanwhile, Gary Tormack’s “UAUA” introduces the only Tech House track of the session, adding a subtle rhythmic twist.
Closing the mix, Minimal and Deep Tech textures return with Hipp-E’s “Stuck In The Wash,” leading seamlessly into the smooth House vibes of David Böning’s “Joes Groove.” Velvety Elements 251 captures the essence of deep, flowing grooves, making it another standout session from DJ Joshua.
