Scientific Sound Asia has announced the latest playlist for DJ Joshua's radio show, Floating Beats 681. As a leading entity within the Asian electronic music landscape, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a pivotal role in the development of the electronic music community throughout Asia.
DJ Joshua, originally from Évora, Portugal, has been a significant presence in the electronic music scene since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes reflects his long-standing commitment to the genre.
Over the course of his career, he has mastered a variety of styles, including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the obstacles faced by the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained steadfast in his dedication to electronic music.
He devised innovative methods for producing and distributing his work, often collaborating with fellow artists to organise events in clubs and bars. These venues became vital gathering spots for House and Techno aficionados, broadening his influence beyond his immediate locality.
Following the birth of his child, Joshua scaled back his involvement in events and radio to prioritise family life. As his daughter matured, his enthusiasm for music was rekindled, culminating in the creation of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show.
In 2023, Joshua further immersed himself in music production, adopting several pseudonyms to explore different aspects of his creativity. Under the aliases K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he has released numerous tracks, each reflecting a distinct style and influence.
In January 2024, he established JFLM Recordings to bolster his production initiatives and serve as a platform for his diverse works. Through this label, Joshua continues to contribute to the electronic music scene, offering audiences a broad array of sounds that exemplify his versatility and dedication to the art form.
Floating Beats 681 by DJ Joshua sets the stage with atmospheric Deep House, kicking off with Master H’s “Be Real” before transitioning into the hypnotic melodies of John Digweed & Captain Mustache’s “Bleu Cobalt (Alican Remix).” These early selections lay a rich foundation of layered beats, pulling listeners into a journey of deep, melodic textures.
The energy gradually intensifies with deep and raw Techno influences. Anton Kubikov’s “After The Rain” introduces hypnotic, rolling rhythms, while DJ Dextro’s “A Failed Specie” and Blue Hour’s “Triton” push the mix into darker, more immersive territory. The pulsating force of Colomboi’s “Satisfago” (William Arist Remix) adds to the hypnotic drive, building a relentless groove.
Balancing the mix, stripped-down House elements appear in Monsieur et Madame Benoit’s “Ava” remix, while Man Power’s “Mission Critical” introduces an unpredictable, groove-laden shift. The underground energy remains strong with the rolling Techno of S-File’s “Rejuiced” before The Deviantt’s “Time Machine” closes the set with a deep, entrancing finale.
With Floating Beats 681, DJ Joshua curates a masterful exploration of underground sounds, bridging the worlds of Deep House, Melodic Techno, and Raw Hypnotic Techno for an immersive and evolving sonic experience.
