Scientific Sound Asia has announced the latest playlist for DJ Joshua's radio show, Floating Beats 682. As a key player in the Asian electronic music landscape, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a vital role in the development of the electronic music community throughout Asia.
DJ Joshua, originally from Évora, Portugal, has been a significant presence in the electronic music scene since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes reflects his unwavering commitment to the genre.
Over the course of his career, he has excelled in a variety of styles, including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the challenges encountered by the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained steadfast in his dedication to electronic music.
He devised innovative methods for producing and disseminating his work, frequently collaborating with other artists to organise events in clubs and bars. These venues became crucial meeting points for House and Techno aficionados, allowing him to extend his influence beyond his immediate locality.
Following the birth of his child, Joshua scaled back his participation in events and radio to prioritise family life. As his daughter matured, his passion for music was rekindled, leading to the establishment of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show.
In 2023, Joshua immersed himself further into music production, adopting various pseudonyms to explore different aspects of his creativity. Under the aliases K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he has released numerous tracks, each showcasing a distinct style and influence.
In January 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings to enhance his production capabilities and provide a platform for his eclectic creations. Through this label, Joshua remains actively engaged in the electronic music scene, offering audiences a diverse array of sounds that highlight his versatility and dedication to the art form.
In this episode of Floating Beats, DJ Joshua guides listeners through a richly textured hour of electronic rhythm, kicking off with Ian O’Donovan’s hypnotic Beyond Alaska and the soulful vocal-led Heaven Is A Place on Earth by DJ Ino featuring MC Johnny Def. These early selections build a deep and emotive groove that sets the tone perfectly.
Progressive intensity arrives courtesy of Etyen’s Bebe, expertly reimagined by Petar Dundov, before the mix dives into driving techno territory with Lionel Weets' A New Era and Oniris’ floor-primed Memories. Joshua balances atmospheric build-up with high-energy execution throughout.
From Vince Watson’s reshaped take on NGC 6240 to DJ Hell’s Guede in an ARTBAT rave remix, the midsection pulses with deep, dark energy. Add in the stripped-down minimalism of Brutkho’s Bhekamba and the nostalgic flair of Moby’s classic Go, and the mix journeys seamlessly across mood and tempo.
Closing out the hour, Joshua drops the powerful trio of Adam Beyer, Green Velvet and Layton Giordani with Space Date, a peak-time techno anthem that wraps the first hour on a thunderous note. With crisp transitions and a wide sonic palette, this is yet another testament to Joshua’s finely tuned selection and mixing finesse.
Don't forget to listen to his live radio show on Monday, March 24th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't catch it then, a replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
