Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for DJ Joshua's radio show, Floating Beats 686. As a prominent entity within the Asian electronic music sector, Scientific Sound Asia operates as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a crucial role in the advancement of the electronic music community across Asia.
DJ Joshua, hailing from Évora, Portugal, has been a pivotal figure in the electronic music scene since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes exemplifies his enduring commitment to the genre.
Throughout his career, he has excelled in various styles, including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the challenges faced by the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained steadfast in his dedication to electronic music.
He developed innovative methods for producing and distributing his music, frequently collaborating with other artists to organise events in clubs and bars. These venues became essential hubs for House and Techno enthusiasts, enabling him to extend his influence beyond his immediate surroundings.
After the birth of his child, Joshua reduced his involvement in events and radio to prioritise family life. However, as his daughter grew, his passion for music was reignited, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show.
In 2023, Joshua further immersed himself in music production, adopting several pseudonyms to explore various facets of his creativity. Under the aliases K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he has released a multitude of tracks, each showcasing a unique style and influence.
In January 2024, he established JFLM Recordings to enhance his production efforts and provide a platform for his diverse creations. Through this label, Joshua remains actively engaged in the electronic music scene, offering audiences a wide array of sounds that underscore his versatility and dedication to the art form.
DJ Joshua's Floating Beats 686 begins with warm, soulful selections like Master H’s "Be Real" and Deetron’s rhythm-driven "Translate Rhythms," setting a house-infused tone that eases listeners into the mix. The vibe deepens as Luna Ludmila’s "Thalia" and Man Power’s "Spatial Relation" offer up refined Deep House textures with an introspective edge.
Transitioning into more percussive territory, tracks like Saytek’s "A Thousand Miles Above The Earth" and Matthias Tanzmann & Black Circle’s "Procession" blend elements of Tech House with an evolving groove, preparing the stage for a shift in energy.
From there, the intensity builds as DJ Joshua dives into raw and hypnotic Techno with standout cuts like Conrad Van Orton’s "Blossom" and Trecci’s "A Home of One’s Ow." Each selection reinforces the atmospheric, rolling nature of the mix, showcasing a darker, more driving sounds.
Whether you’re drawn in by the subtle rhythms of Deep House or the pulsating power of Raw Techno, this episode offers something for every electronic music enthusiast. Floating Beats 686 reaffirms DJ Joshua’s ability to craft thoughtful, seamless journeys through genre-blending sound.
