Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for DJ Joshua's radio show, Floating Beats 688. As a prominent entity within the Asian electronic music landscape, Scientific Sound Asia operates as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a crucial role in nurturing the electronic music community across the continent.
DJ Joshua, hailing from Évora, Portugal, has been a significant figure in the electronic music sphere since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes is a testament to his enduring dedication to the genre.
Throughout his career, he has excelled in a variety of styles, including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the challenges faced by the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained steadfast in his commitment to electronic music.
He devised innovative approaches to producing and distributing his music, frequently collaborating with other artists to organise events in clubs and bars. These venues became essential hubs for House and Techno aficionados, allowing him to extend his influence beyond his local area.
After the birth of his child, Joshua reduced his involvement in events and radio to prioritise family life. However, as his daughter grew older, his passion for music was reignited, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show.
In 2023, Joshua further immersed himself in music production, adopting several pseudonyms to explore various dimensions of his creativity. Under the aliases K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he has released a multitude of tracks, each reflecting a unique style and influence.
In January 2024, he established JFLM Recordings to enhance his production capabilities and provide a platform for his diverse creations. Through this label, Joshua remains actively engaged in the electronic music scene, offering audiences a wide array of sounds that underscore his versatility and commitment to the art form.
The episode opens with Tal Fussman’s "Everybody" (Elisa Bee Remix), setting a lively tone with an upfront techno edge. Angelo Bass follows with the deep, soulful grooves of "Strictly for Love," seamlessly leading into Sublee’s minimalistic rhythms on "MeTime."
The journey continues into deeper sounds with Danny Howells' "Stereodrama," followed by a strong push into raw and hypnotic techno with Acitone’s "Paradise Lost" and Conrad Van Orton’s "Asakusa Station," building a dense, immersive atmosphere.
Greg Gow’s "Night Shadows" and Drumcomplex’s "Asstitude" maintain the energy with a balance of raw textures and peak-time energy, before Marco Bailey and Moy Santana (remixed by Sterac) elevate the hypnotic drive even further.
Ian O’Donovan’s "Exit Earth" brings a refreshing melodic shift with his progressive house flair, before Salbany’s "Crossroads" (Cisco Ferreira Lisbon Dub Remix) closes the mix with a deep and entrancing techno finish, rounding off another powerful Floating Beats session.
Don't forget to catch his live radio show on Monday, April 28th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't make it, you can hear the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
