Scientific Sound Asia has announced the latest playlist for DJ Joshua's radio show, Floating Beats 680. As a leading entity within the Asian electronic music landscape, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a pivotal role in the development of the electronic music community throughout Asia.
DJ Joshua, originally from Évora, Portugal, has been a significant presence in the electronic music scene since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes reflects his long-standing commitment to the genre.
Over the course of his career, he has mastered a variety of styles, including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the obstacles faced by the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained steadfast in his dedication to electronic music.
He devised innovative methods for producing and distributing his work, often collaborating with fellow artists to organise events in clubs and bars. These venues became vital gathering spots for House and Techno aficionados, broadening his influence beyond his immediate locality.
Following the birth of his child, Joshua scaled back his involvement in events and radio to prioritise family life. As his daughter matured, his enthusiasm for music was rekindled, culminating in the creation of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show.
In 2023, Joshua further immersed himself in music production, adopting several pseudonyms to explore different aspects of his creativity. Under the aliases K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he has released numerous tracks, each reflecting a distinct style and influence.
In January 2024, he established JFLM Recordings to bolster his production initiatives and serve as a platform for his diverse works. Through this label, Joshua continues to contribute to the electronic music scene, offering audiences a broad array of sounds that exemplify his versatility and dedication to the art form.
Floating Beats 680 by DJ Joshua sets the stage with an intense, immersive vibe that commands attention. Opening with DJ Surgeles’ “Philokalist,” the mix immediately envelops you in a world of raw, deep, and hypnotic Techno beats, perfectly captured by Warm Up Recordings.
As the journey unfolds, Jamie Bissmire’s “Lore and Order” and Exos’ “Ruff Cut” intensify the atmosphere with pulsating rhythms and intricate layers that drive the energy forward. Each track is a testament to the power of minimal yet impactful production that defines this unique blend of Techno.
Midway through, the set reveals its dynamic contrast with moments of subtle House influences, as seen in Vil’s “Drea,” adding a refreshing twist to the predominantly Techno journey. The seamless transitions maintain a continuous pulse, keeping the listener in a state of hypnotic engagement.
Ultimately, Floating Beats 680 is an exploration of sound that marries the raw intensity of deep Techno with the groove of House elements. DJ Joshua curates an experience that’s both emotionally resonant and viscerally impactful, inviting you to lose yourself in a world of relentless beats and profound musical depth.
