Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the newest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio programs, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements. As a central figure in the Asian electronic music sector, Scientific Sound Asia operates as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a crucial role in shaping the electronic music landscape in Asia.
Originating from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been an integral part of the electronic music scene for numerous years. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes demonstrates his enduring commitment to the genre.
Throughout his career, DJ Joshua has mastered a variety of genres, including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the difficulties encountered by the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained dedicated to electronic music.
Faced with societal challenges and criticism, he developed creative ways to create and share his music. By often partnering with other artists, he organized events in clubs and bars, which became essential centres for House and Techno enthusiasts, thus expanding his impact far beyond his local community.
After becoming a father, DJ Joshua scaled back his event and radio commitments to prioritize his family. However, as his daughter grew older, his passion for music reemerged, prompting him to start the Floating Beats podcast and radio show. The program is renowned for its diverse electronic music selection, highlighted by Joshua's flawless mixing, thoughtful track selection, and emotional exploration of various genres.
DJ Joshua considers music to be a spiritual refuge that takes audiences on a sonic journey beyond traditional artistic boundaries. In January 2024, he expanded his artistic reach by founding JFLM Recordings, a record label dedicated to showcasing his compositions and supporting his production efforts.
In this week’s dynamic session, DJ Joshua kicks things off with the first hour of Floating Beats is rich in Tech House and Techno. Featuring hypnotic tracks like Boris Werner’s "Ochtend Glunderen" and Dillon Nathaniel’s "Let’s Dance," the set transitions into raw, driving techno with standout contributions from DJ Joshua himself under the moniker Joshua Fernand ("This Generation"). Other highlights include Robert Hood’s Detroit-infused "Future Remedy" and Roland Casper’s acid-tinged "Strong Box," adding layers of intensity and depth.
The second-hour Velvety Elements shifts to a more soulful and rhythmic vibe. Deep House grooves dominate with tracks like Camiel Daamen’s "Future Self" and Felipe Gordon’s "Seasick's Better Than Heartsick Baby." Notable contributions from his other moniker Joshua Marian with "Sunflower" showcase a melodic, introspective sound. The session concludes with Tal Fussman’s "Freeze," bridging the gap between melodic house and techno, ensuring the mix remains captivating from start to finish.
Don't forget to listen to his radio show from December 2nd, 2024, now uploaded to Mixcloud. The replay is also available for you to enjoy at your convenience.
