Scientific Sound Asia has recently unveiled the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio show, Velvety Elements episode 253. A recognised cornerstone of the Asian electronic music scene, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a vital role in the evolution of the electronic music community across Asia.

Hailing from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has made a remarkable impact within the electronic music sphere, with a career characterised by enthusiasm, resilience, and a continually expanding repertoire of genres. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes is a testament to his unwavering dedication to electronic music, allowing him to explore a broad spectrum of sounds.

Throughout his career, despite achieving success across various genres such as Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music has consistently remained at the core of his artistic identity. During the challenges faced by the rave scene in Portugal throughout the 1990s, Joshua remained steadfast, discovering innovative ways to share and distribute his music.

Through collaborations with fellow artists and hosting events at clubs and bars, he cultivated spaces where House and Techno enthusiasts could come together, significantly expanding his influence beyond his immediate surroundings. After taking a step back to focus on family following the birth of his child, Joshua rediscovered his passion for DJing as his daughter grew, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats radio show.

Floating Beats provided him with a platform to explore a diverse array of electronic music, seamlessly blending progressive, melodic, and deeper techno-infused sounds. However, his enduring affection for House music inspired him to establish a second show: Velvety Elements.

Velvety Elements allows DJ Joshua to delve into the softer, more refined aspects of House music, merging warm rhythms, soulful melodies, and intricate layering to create a sophisticated listening experience. The show focuses on deep, smooth, and emotionally resonant tracks, designed to envelop listeners in a luxurious and elegant atmosphere, showcasing his precision as a selector and his intuitive ability to harmonise melodies.

By adopting various aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he broadens his creative horizons by exploring different styles of House music. In January 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings, a label he established to showcase his production work and provide a platform for his artistic vision. Velvety Elements marks another chapter in his ongoing musical journey, guiding listeners through an elegant exploration of House music’s most sophisticated and enchanting sounds.

Velvety Elements 253 by DJ Joshua begins with a smooth, deep groove as Gari Romalis’ "Scatter Dance" lays the foundation for an immersive journey. The mix flows seamlessly into Subsonique’s "After All" and Muudu & Malipop’s "Follow Me" (Live Mix), bringing a fusion of classic House elements and contemporary Deep House textures.

As the session deepens, Manuel Sahagun’s "Let It Go" and Miguel Migs & Ursula Rucker’s "Connectivity" add an emotive and soulful depth, while Andrey Djackonda’s "Egregor" introduces a Minimal Tech House influence that enhances the rhythm.

Camiel Daamen’s "Future Self" and Anton Kubikov’s "3 Magic Words" continue the hypnotic flow, guiding the set into subtle, groove-driven terrain. As the mix reaches its peak, Steve Bug’s "To Feel" and Black Eyes’ "Hydro Warmth" deliver warm, rolling beats before Manuel Kane’s "Back" provides the perfect deep, soulful closing.

With Velvety Elements 253, DJ Joshua curates a sophisticated blend of Deep House, House, and Minimal Tech, offering a refined listening experience for fans of underground grooves and lush sonic textures.

Be sure to tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, March 11th, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss the live broadcast, you can catch the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
