Scientific Sound Asia has recently introduced the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio show, Velvety Elements, episode 254. As a recognised cornerstone of the Asian electronic music landscape, Scientific Sound Asia operates as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a crucial role in the development of the electronic music community across the continent.

Originating from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has made a significant mark within the electronic music domain, with a career defined by passion, perseverance, and an ever-expanding repertoire of genres. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes exemplifies his unwavering commitment to electronic music, enabling him to explore a wide range of sounds.

Throughout his career, despite achieving success across various genres such as Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music has consistently remained at the heart of his artistic identity. During the challenges faced by the rave scene in Portugal in the 1990s, Joshua remained resolute, discovering innovative methods to share and distribute his music.

Through collaborations with fellow artists and hosting events at clubs and bars, he fostered environments where House and Techno enthusiasts could convene, significantly broadening his influence beyond his immediate vicinity. After taking a hiatus to focus on family following the birth of his child, Joshua rediscovered his passion for DJing as his daughter grew, which led to the inception of the Floating Beats radio show.

Floating Beats provided him with a platform to explore a diverse range of electronic music, seamlessly integrating progressive, melodic, and deeper techno-infused sounds. However, his enduring love for House music inspired him to establish a second show: Velvety Elements.

Velvety Elements allows DJ Joshua to explore the softer, more refined aspects of House music, merging warm rhythms, soulful melodies, and intricate layering to create a sophisticated listening experience. The show focuses on deep, smooth, and emotionally resonant tracks, designed to envelop listeners in a luxurious and elegant atmosphere, showcasing his precision as a selector and his intuitive ability to harmonise melodies.

By adopting various aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he expands his creative horizons by delving into different styles of House music. In January 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings, a label he established to showcase his production work and provide a platform for his artistic vision. Velvety Elements represents another chapter in his ongoing musical journey, guiding listeners through an elegant exploration of House music’s most sophisticated and enchanting sounds.

DJ Joshua brings another refined selection of deep and groove-infused sounds in Velvety Elements 254, guiding listeners through a journey of Deep House, House, and Jackin House. Opening the set, DJ W!ld’s "Disco & Shit" delivers a funky, underground jackin’ groove, setting the tone for the rhythm-heavy session. This is followed by Aleqs Notal’s "Lighten You UP (Obsession for Percussion Mix)," layering intricate percussion over warm, soulful melodies that add depth to the mix.

The energy stays high with Kristy Harper’s "Blissful Denial," a track full of hypnotic rhythms and rolling basslines, perfectly complementing Manuel Kane’s "Evident," which brings a rich blend of melodic textures and deep, immersive vibes. Ejeca & Cinthie’s "Free From (Cinthie Remix)" injects a classic house influence, blending crisp drum work with atmospheric synths, while Michael Watford’s "So Into You (Dub Mix)" adds a timeless vocal-driven deep house touch.

As the session progresses, Delano Smith & Diamondancer’s "A Message For the DJ" wraps up the mix with a warm, flowing groove, offering an intimate deep house feel that resonates long after the last beat drops. Tracks like DP-6’s "No Worries" and Acitone’s "Sirens" bring an effortlessly cool blend of underground vibes, perfect for late-night listening or dancefloor moments.

With Velvety Elements 254, DJ Joshua once again curates an exceptional mix, delivering soulful, rhythmic, and deep grooves from some of the finest underground producers. Whether you’re looking to unwind or immerse yourself in the music, this episode captures the essence of Deep House and Jackin House, keeping the rhythm flowing and the energy alive.
