Scientific Sound Asia has recently introduced the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio show, Velvety Elements, episode 255. As a prominent entity in the Asian electronic music sector, Scientific Sound Asia operates as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a significant role in the development of the electronic music community throughout Asia.
Originating from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has made a considerable impact in the electronic music field, with a career characterised by commitment, tenacity, and an ever-expanding repertoire of genres. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes exemplifies his unwavering dedication to electronic music, enabling him to explore a diverse range of sounds.
Throughout his career, while achieving success in various genres such as Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout, House music has always remained at the core of his artistic identity. During the 1990s, when the rave scene in Portugal encountered difficulties, Joshua remained resolute, discovering innovative methods to share and distribute his music.
By collaborating with fellow artists and organising events at clubs and bars, he established venues for House and Techno enthusiasts to come together, significantly expanding his influence beyond his local community. Following a hiatus to focus on his family after the birth of his child, Joshua rekindled his passion for DJing as his daughter grew, which led to the inception of the Floating Beats radio show.
Floating Beats provided him with a platform to explore a broad spectrum of electronic music, seamlessly blending progressive, melodic, and deeper techno-infused sounds. Nevertheless, his enduring affection for House music motivated him to create a second show: Velvety Elements.
Velvety Elements enables DJ Joshua to explore the more delicate and refined dimensions of House music, merging warm rhythms, soulful melodies, and intricate layering to create an elegant listening experience. The show highlights deep, smooth, and emotionally resonant tracks, designed to immerse listeners in a luxurious and sophisticated atmosphere, showcasing his precision as a selector and his intuitive ability to harmonise melodies.
By adopting various aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he broadened his creative horizons by investigating different styles of House music. In January 2024, he established JFLM Recordings, a label designed to showcase his production work and provide a platform for his artistic vision. Velvety Elements marks another chapter in his ongoing musical journey, guiding listeners through a refined exploration of House music’s most sophisticated and enchanting sounds.
Episode 255 of Velvety Elements flows effortlessly through a range of warm and textured Deep House grooves. Anton Kubikov opens with the hypnotic “Outback Deep,” followed by Flabaire’s “Life Flow,” setting a deeply immersive tone. The lush layering and understated rhythm carry through with tracks like Johannes Albert’s “The Crust Song” and Damian Rausch’s emotive “About Love.”
House influences shine through in selections such as Black Eyes’ “Blue Grooves” and Fragoso’s “Clear Vision,” both of which balance energy with restraint. DJ Sneak’s “Dirty Jazz” adds a punchy, jazz-infused groove to the set, while Franck Roger’s “Blue” brings a timeless touch to the deeper end of the spectrum.
Further into the set, Julius Strieder and Sonata Collective maintain the mood with soulful, melodic entries. Lisi & Bill’s “Told You So” continues the deep vibe with a laid-back yet engaging rhythm, before G. Flame rounds things off with a tech-tinged finale on “Free Town.”
Whether you’re winding down or warming up, DJ Joshua’s latest episode offers a rich collection of tracks for lovers of deeper sounds. It’s a finely curated session of Deep House, House, and Tech House, with subtle jazz and soul elements woven throughout.
Remember to tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, March 25th, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss the live broadcast, you can catch the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
