Scientific Sound Asia has recently unveiled the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio show, Velvety Elements, episode 258. As a prominent entity within the Asian electronic music scene, Scientific Sound Asia operates as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing a crucial role in the advancement of the electronic music community across the continent.
Originating from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has significantly influenced the electronic music landscape, with a career characterised by dedication, resilience, and a continually expanding array of genres. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes is a testament to his unwavering commitment to electronic music, enabling him to explore a diverse range of sounds.
Throughout his career, DJ Joshua has gained recognition across various genres, including Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout; however, House music has consistently remained at the core of his artistic identity. In the 1990s, amid challenges facing the rave scene in Portugal, Joshua remained resolute, finding innovative ways to share and distribute his music.
By collaborating with fellow artists and organising events in clubs and bars, he created environments for House and Techno enthusiasts to connect, significantly extending his influence beyond his local community. After a hiatus to focus on family following the birth of his child, Joshua reignited his passion for DJing as his daughter grew, which led to the inception of the Floating Beats radio show.
Floating Beats provided him with a platform to explore a wide spectrum of electronic music, effortlessly blending progressive, melodic, and deeper techno-infused sounds. Nevertheless, his enduring passion for House music inspired him to launch a second show: Velvety Elements.
Velvety Elements enables DJ Joshua to delve into the more subtle and refined dimensions of House music, merging warm rhythms, soulful melodies, and intricate layering to create an elegant listening experience. The show features deep, smooth, and emotionally resonant tracks, designed to immerse listeners in a luxurious and sophisticated atmosphere, showcasing his precision as a selector and his intuitive ability to harmonise melodies.
By adopting various aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he has expanded his creative horizons by exploring different styles of House music. In January 2024, he established JFLM Recordings, a label aimed at showcasing his production work and providing a platform for his artistic vision.
Velvety Elements signifies another chapter in his ongoing musical journey, as he seeks to guide listeners through a refined exploration of House music’s most sophisticated and enchanting sounds across various sub-genres.
Velvety Elements 258 opens with Omid 16B’s hypnotic “I Feel (Club Mix)” and dives into a cascade of Deep House gems like DJ Pipe’s “Sunrise Fiction” and Tuccillo’s “2D Music,” setting the tone for a lush and immersive listening session.
Tech House textures weave into the mix through tracks such as Gideon Jackson’s “Give A Little (Terry’s Dirtfrog Remix)” and DJ Vibe’s “Don’t Stop (Dub Mix),” adding a crisp, dancefloor-friendly energy that balances the deeper moments.
The set takes a nostalgic turn with DJ Romain’s “Find My Way (Tribal Dub Mix),” representing Classic House, while Garage House gets its moment in Yonatan Rukhman’s “Walls Of Love.” Nu Disco vibes emerge in the closing moments with Bruxas’ “Más Profundo (Sakr Remix),” adding a mellow flair.
Joshua blends each genre with precision, resulting in a versatile and expressive journey that pays homage to both underground and timeless house music. A perfect listen for fans of smooth grooves and genre-spanning selections.
Remember to tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't catch it, the replay will be accessible on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
