Scientific Sound Asia has recently introduced the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio show, Velvety Elements, episode 259. As a leading organisation within the Asian electronic music scene, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, playing an essential role in the development of the electronic music community throughout the continent.

Hailing from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has made a significant impact on the electronic music landscape, with a career defined by dedication, resilience, and an ever-expanding repertoire of genres. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to electronic music, allowing him to explore a diverse array of sounds.

Throughout his career, DJ Joshua has garnered recognition across multiple genres, including Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout; however, House music has consistently remained at the heart of his artistic identity. In the 1990s, amidst the challenges faced by the rave scene in Portugal, Joshua remained steadfast, discovering innovative ways to share and distribute his music.

By collaborating with fellow artists and organising events in clubs and bars, he fostered environments for House and Techno enthusiasts to connect, significantly extending his influence beyond his local community. After taking a break to focus on family following the birth of his child, Joshua reignited his passion for DJing as his daughter grew, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats radio show.

Floating Beats provided him with a platform to explore a vast spectrum of electronic music, seamlessly blending progressive, melodic, and deeper techno-infused sounds. Nevertheless, his enduring passion for House music inspired him to launch a second show: Velvety Elements.

Velvety Elements allows DJ Joshua to delve into the more subtle and refined aspects of House music, merging warm rhythms, soulful melodies, and intricate layering to create an elegant listening experience. The show features deep, smooth, and emotionally resonant tracks, designed to immerse listeners in a luxurious and sophisticated atmosphere, showcasing his precision as a selector and his intuitive ability to harmonise melodies.

By adopting various aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he has broadened his creative horizons by exploring different styles of House music. In January 2024, he established JFLM Recordings, a label aimed at showcasing his production work and providing a platform for his artistic vision.

Velvety Elements represents another chapter in his ongoing musical journey, as he aspires to guide listeners through a refined exploration of House music’s most sophisticated and enchanting sounds across various sub-genres.

Velvety Elements 259 opens with the hypnotic tones of Freestyle Man’s “Hooper Street Groove” and Matt Masters’ “Live Again,” both setting the scene with smooth, late-night Deep House vibes. Clark Street Dubs continues the tone with “Make You Think,” offering groove-heavy rhythms perfect for reflective listening.

The mood deepens further with standout selections like Moodymanc’s “Dictator” and Danny Howells’ dub version of “Powershow,” maintaining a lush atmosphere. Black Eyes and Satoshi Tomiie bring a raw House edge that contrasts nicely with the laid-back flow of the earlier selections.

Joshua transitions into more dancefloor-driven tracks with Vincent Caira’s “Got 2 Move,” a proper Jackin House gem, and Enrico Rosica’s dubby “Upstairs,” which adds momentum to the groove. Felipe Gordon’s “Travel Through Your Mind” keeps things rolling with its vibrant and percussive House energy.

Closing with Reboot’s “Alicat,” the set wraps up with a fusion of deep textures and stripped-back funk. Velvety Elements 259 offers a thoughtful, groove-laden session that showcases DJ Joshua’s talent for weaving classic House elements into a modern Deep House journey.

Remember to tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't catch it, the replay will be accessible on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
