Musical Duo Many Hands (Berlin) have released the playlist for their 'Basement Soul' 08 show, which was initially broadcast on Friday, December 13th. You can tune in to the show using the Mixcloud player below. Scientific Sound Asia serves as an English-language electronic music station, DJ agency, and promoter catering to expatriates and locals in Asia.

Many Hands is the creation of the harmonious and diverse DJ duo Jona J & Kava. Jona Jefferies, born in Barcelona and raised in Spain and the UK, began his career as a DJ in the vibrant DIY 90's Free Party/Rave scene in the Southwest of the UK.

After moving to Ibiza, Jona was captivated by its Balearic sound and hedonistic style, becoming a regular visitor. He later moved to Bristol, known as Bass City, where he lived for an extended period, immersing himself in its urban mindset and passion for Sound System Culture.

Jona is currently based in Berlin, a hub for international music events, where he performs at various venues throughout the city. His collaboration with Lewis Hopkin from Stardelta Mastering, under the alias 'Sapience', for Tom Middleton's 'Sound Of The Cosmos' label, with their release 'Nocturnal', has garnered attention and airplay from respected DJs like Gilles Peterson, Mala, and Laurent Garnier. While Jona has primarily performed in Europe, he has recently expanded his reach to include numerous events in Asia.

Kava, a DJ originally from New Zealand, has made Berlin his home for the past decade. Having started his DJ career in Wellington, he was exposed to a variety of music genres such as Soul, Bashment, Hip Hop, Disco, House, Techno, and Drum and Bass. During his time in New Zealand, Kava shared his passion for music by playing Vinyl records across the country and hosting numerous radio shows on various stations.

His continuous involvement in this sonic journey led him to perform as a DJ across the globe, from local raves and underground clubs to international music festivals spanning Brazil to Asia. He thrived whenever the spotlight was on him. His extensive musical expertise is evident in his eclectic track selections and skilful, innovative mixing that gets people moving and thinking, especially when opening for major acts like Fat Freddy's Drop, Dave Clarke, or DJ Marky.

Following his relocation to Berlin, Kava became a resident for a monthly radio show with Rodi Kirk, known for his work with Scratch 22, for an extended period. The show was called Float Some and Jet Some and aired on the now sadly closed Berlin Community Radio. Additionally, he honed his skills by performing at various events throughout the city.

After meeting through a mutual friend at OYE Records in the capital of Germany, Jona & Kava quickly discovered a shared vocal harmony and clicked, prompting them to start playing music together. This collaboration gave birth to Many Hands, a diverse music session blending dance, defrag, and soothing tunes, held in a basement (thus the name Basement Soul) in the vibrant city of Berlin.

Jona J & Kava explore a wide range of rhythmic and harmonic cultures, blending Disco, Soul, Latin, and Afrobeat with MPCs and Drum Machines. They draw inspiration from Jamaicans in New York, West Africans using Synthesizers, and funky Euro-freaks. Their music can be quirky or energetic, but it is always aimed at getting people on the dance floor.

Episode 08 of Many Hands' 'Basement Soul' Show takes listeners on a diverse musical voyage filled with soulful and rhythmic tunes. This instalment seamlessly transitions between different genres, showcasing the soulful vibes of Flowers and The Emotions, the profound sounds of Theo Parrish and Chaos in the CBD, and the vibrant beats of Drum & Bass by DJ Krust.

Blending Mbalax rhythms by Aby Ngana Diop with Dubstep by TRG, this collection captures the spirit of world music, house, funk, and electronic music. Ideal for those who enjoy moving to the beat and discovering different genres, 'Basement Soul' Show 08 offers an enticing mix of global and soulful melodies.
