The DJ duo Many Hands (Berlin/UK) has released their playlist for the Basement Soul show 12, which first aired on Friday, 14th January. You can listen to the session using the Mixcloud player below. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music station, DJ agency, and event management company catering to expatriates and locals across Asia.
Many Hands is the creative collaboration of DJs Jona J and Kava. Jona Jefferies, born in Barcelona and raised between Spain and the UK, began his DJ career in the thriving DIY 90s free party and rave scene in southwest England.
After moving to Ibiza, he was captivated by its Balearic sound and vibrant culture, and he continues to return regularly. Following his time in Ibiza, Jona settled in Bristol, where he embraced the city’s urban energy and sound system culture.
Jona has performed widely across Berlin’s music scene, appearing at numerous venues throughout the city. Recently, he returned to the UK. His track Nocturnal, a collaboration with long-time friend Lewis Hopkin of Stardelta Mastering under the name Sapience, was released on Tom Middleton’s Sound Of The Cosmos label, gaining airplay from renowned DJs like Gilles Peterson, Mala, and Laurent Garnier.
Kava, originally from New Zealand, has called Berlin home for over a decade. His DJ journey began in Wellington, where he was immersed in genres like Soul, Bashment, Hip Hop, Disco, House, Techno, and Drum and Bass. In New Zealand, Kava championed vinyl culture and hosted numerous radio shows.
After relocating to Berlin, Kava co-hosted Float Some and Jet Some, a monthly radio show with Rodi Kirk of Scratch 22 fame on the now-closed Berlin Community Radio. His time on air and performances across Berlin honed his craft, earning him recognition throughout the city’s music community.
The two DJs met through a mutual contact near Berlin’s OYE Records, where they quickly discovered a shared musical synergy. This connection led to Many Hands, an eclectic music session held in Berlin’s Basement Soul scene.
Jona J and Kava’s sets cover a wide musical spectrum, blending Disco, Soul, Latin, and Afrobeat with MPCs, drum machines, Jamaican beats from New York, and West African rhythms on synthesizers. Their sound is sometimes quirky, sometimes intense, but always aimed at the dance floor.
Many Hands 'Basement Soul' Show 12 dives deep into soulful sounds, blending Neo-Soul, House, and Afrobeat in a seamless musical journey. Featuring Ladi6's Neo-Soul tones, the Funk and R&B warmth of Lucy Pearl, and the iconic Afrobeat collaboration of Fela Kuti and Roy Ayers, this show celebrates a vibrant sound.
House beats from Jabru and DJ N4 meet the textured grooves of UK Garage by Groove Chronicles and Dubstep by Horsepower Productions, creating an eclectic mix. Tune in for an inspired selection that captures the essence of global and electronic rhythms.
