Originating from New Zealand and the UK, the disc jockey duo known as Many Hands is currently located in Berlin. They have just unveiled the playlist for episode 56 of 'Basement Soul'. The program is broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, a platform dedicated to electronic music that serves expats, locals in Asia, and a global audience.

The brainchild of the deeply committed DJs Jona J and Kava, Many Hands was born out of their intellectual collaboration. Jona, also known as Jona Jefferies, hails from Barcelona and grew up splitting his time between Spain and the UK. He embarked on his DJ career during the emergence of the free party and rave culture in Southwest England in the early 1990s. Upon moving to Ibiza, he was captivated by the island's Balearic music and its lavish atmosphere, prompting him to return time and time again, both as a DJ and a partygoer.

Following his time in Ibiza, Jona relocated to Bass City, Bristol, a renowned location for its lively urban atmosphere and Sound System Culture. During his stay there, he dedicated years to refining his talents. With his carefree attitude, Jona gained acclaim in Berlin's thriving global music community, performing on various stages throughout the city. In 2020, he returned to the United Kingdom to continue his musical journey.

The track 'Nocturnal' by Jona, created in collaboration with his longtime friend Lewis Hopkin from Stardelta Mastering under the alias 'Sapience' for Tom Middleton's label 'Sound Of The Cosmos', has received significant praise. It has been showcased by acclaimed DJs including Gilles Peterson, Mala, and Laurent Garnier.

Having originated from New Zealand, Kava has been living in Berlin for over a decade. His musical journey began in the vibrant music scene of Wellington, where he explored a wide range of genres including Soul, Bashment, Hip Hop, Disco, House, Techno, and Drum and Bass. In New Zealand, Kava excelled in distributing vinyl records extensively and hosting various radio programs on different stations.

Upon relocating to Berlin, Kava quickly became a familiar presence on the once-a-month radio program "Float Some and Jet Some," hosted by Rodi Kirk from Scratch 22, which aired on the now-closed Berlin Community Radio. Additionally, he showcased his artistic talents at multiple locations throughout the German capital.

Jona and Kava were introduced by a mutual friend close to OYE Records in Berlin, where they discovered a common musical bond. This chance encounter sparked the inception of Many Hands, a diverse fusion of dance, deconstruction, and calming gatherings known as Basement Soul, held in a cosy underground location in the heart of Berlin.

Jona J & Kava's shows encompass a diverse array of rhythmic and harmonic styles. Their music, blending Disco, Soul, Latin, and Afrobeat, effortlessly incorporates MPCs and Drum Machines, inspired by Jamaican musicians in New York, West African artists using synthesizers, and European funk fans. Their sound is characterized by occasional eccentricity and audacity, yet always crafted with dancers in focus.

The spirit of vinyl record enthusiasts and music connoisseurs is embodied by Many Hands. Growing up in the 80s, they have a natural understanding of late-night adventures, drawn to dimly lit basements resonating with powerful sound systems. Through their show, Basement Soul, they unite us in a shared musical journey.

In this episode of Basement Soul by Many Hands, we take you on a musical journey through various genres, including soul, jazz, house, and more. Featuring standout tracks by L.T.D, Bob James, and Jamma-Dee, this mix is sure to captivate and inspire. Enjoy the diverse and rhythmic sounds from this episode!
