Scientific Sound Asia has just unveiled the latest playlists for DJ Joshua’s well-loved shows, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements. As a key player in the Asian electronic music scene, Scientific Sound Asia continues to be a significant promoter, radio station, and DJ agency, driving the growth of techno and house music events in Ho Chi Minh City and beyond, with a dedicated global following.
DJ Joshua, a Portuguese DJ with roots in Évora, is renowned for his deep passion for electronic dance music. His expansive collection, spanning digital tracks, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes, reflects his dedication to genres such as deep house, techno, progressive house, and others.
From an early age, DJ Joshua immersed himself in perfecting his DJ skills and curating a diverse music library that includes deep house, techno, drum and bass, and chillout. The 1990s in Portugal were marked by societal resistance to the burgeoning rave and underground music scenes, with electronic dance music, especially techno, facing significant opposition.
Despite these challenges, DJ Joshua remained committed to his craft, sharing his music through underground channels and orchestrating house and techno music events at various clubs and bars. His efforts were instrumental in shaping the local music scene, drawing in crowds from different cities and fostering a growing appreciation for house music and techno in Portugal.
Following the arrival of his first child, DJ Joshua temporarily stepped back from organising events and hosting radio shows to focus on his family. However, his daughter’s growth reignited his passion for music, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show. This weekly programme offers a vibrant mix of electronic music genres, designed to captivate and engage listeners. The first hour of Floating Beats presents a wide array of tracks, blending various styles to craft a unique and immersive listening experience.
In the second hour, DJ Joshua delves into the soulful and melodic realms of house music with Velvety Elements. This segment showcases the emotional depth and intricate rhythms of deep house and melodic techno, delivering a thoughtfully curated selection of tracks that highlight the genre’s distinctive features.
