DJ Joshua, a celebrated Portuguese DJ from Évora, is deeply committed to the world of electronic dance music. His vast collection, spanning digital tracks, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes, is a testament to his passion for genres like Deep House, techno, progressive house, and more.
During his early years, DJ Joshua dedicated himself to mastering the art of DJing and curating an eclectic range of music that includes deep house, techno, drum and bass, and chillout. The 1990s in Portugal saw a cultural clash as rave and underground music, particularly techno, faced significant societal opposition.
Despite these challenges, DJ Joshua remained devoted to his music, sharing his work through underground channels and organising techno and house music events at clubs and bars. His efforts were instrumental in growing the local scene, attracting audiences from various cities and contributing to the rise of house music and techno in Portugal.
After the birth of his first child, DJ Joshua stepped back from event planning and radio hosting to focus on his family. However, as his daughter grew, his passion for music was rekindled, leading to the launch of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show. This weekly programme offers listeners a rich mix of electronic music genres, delivering a dynamic and engaging listening experience. The first hour of Floating Beats features a wide selection of tracks, blending different styles to create a captivating sonic journey.
In the second hour, DJ Joshua explores the soulful and melodic elements of house music with Velvety Elements. This segment delves into the emotional depth and complexity of deep house and melodic techno, offering a carefully curated selection of tracks that highlight the genre’s unique qualities.
