Scientific Sound Asia has once again released the latest playlists for DJ Joshua’s iconic shows, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements. As a pivotal force in the Asian electronic music landscape, Scientific Sound Asia continues to lead as a premier radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, supporting techno and house music culture in Ho Chi Minh City and beyond, while reaching a global audience.
DJ Joshua, an esteemed Portuguese DJ hailing from Évora, is recognised for his unwavering passion for electronic dance music. His vast music library, which includes digital tracks, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes, showcases his dedication to genres such as deep house, techno, progressive house, and others.
Throughout his early years, DJ Joshua invested countless hours in refining his DJ skills and assembling a diverse collection of music, including deep house, techno, drum and bass, and chillout. The 1990s in Portugal were a time of cultural friction, as the emerging rave and underground music scenes, particularly techno, faced significant societal resistance.
Despite these obstacles, DJ Joshua remained steadfast in his commitment, sharing his music through underground channels and organising house and techno events at various clubs and bars. His efforts were instrumental in nurturing the local music scene, attracting listeners from different cities and helping to establish a strong foundation for house and techno in Portugal.
Following the birth of his first child, DJ Joshua decided to step back from event planning and radio hosting to focus on his family. However, as his daughter grew, his passion for music was reignited, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show. This weekly programme offers an engaging mix of electronic music genres, designed to captivate and inspire listeners. The first hour of Floating Beats features a diverse array of tracks, blending different styles to craft a unique and immersive sonic experience.
In the second hour, DJ Joshua explores the soulful and melodic aspects of house music with Velvety Elements. This segment delves into the emotional depth and intricate rhythms of deep house and melodic techno, offering a carefully curated selection of tracks that highlight the genre’s rich textures.
DJ Joshua’s shows are renowned for their seamless transitions, carefully curated playlists, and deep understanding of the emotions and energy each genre brings.
